No More Student Loan Debt

Last week, we finished paying off one-half of our student loan debts on our debt free journey. We paid off my student loan debt in full, bringing our total to less than $20k owed on all debts. We paid off the remainder of nearly $30k of my student loan debt last week, along with all other payments and debt–save for one, off all in the span of 5 years. We started out with over $125k in debt in 2017.

We were able to reach this penultimate goal by following our plan, sticking to our budget, and continuing to move forward towards our goals no matter what. The impetus for our debt journey came from a failed attempt to buy a house (that we couldn’t afford), and a chance viewing of the Dave Ramsey Show in a YouTube video.

Many personal finance and debt freedom books later, we are here. All the books and information we used to get here was free. We watched YouTube tutorials and read books from the library, particularly The Total Money Makeover, by Dave Ramsey. All of which contributed to our success and guided us to our finish line.

All that said, if you think you can’t do it, you can. We live in a world where people think they will die with debt, I thought that. It’s not true. We also live in a world where people think they need politicians to pay off their debt, they don’t. You might be waiting for a long time. Only you can determine your level of success. Your debts are your debts.

If you are in debt, crying over your keyboard like I was because you couldn’t get a mortgage to buy a house and go more in debt, you need to believe you can get out of debt. I was maxed out with credit cards, hospital bills, a car payment, and student loan debt. All, if not most, of that debt is gone now. Because we had a plan, a budget, and a focus.

If we can do it, you can do it. You can start today.
